EMI is the geotechnical engineering design consultant for Phase I and II of French Valley Parkway improvement project in Riverside County, CA. The project extends from 1.1 miles south of the Winchester Road Interchange to 0.8 miles north of I-15/I-215 Junction. The intention of the project is to relieve freeway and ramp congestion at the existing Winchester Road Interchange and the I-15/I-215 Junction by adding a new interchange at French Valley Parkway and construction of collector/distributor system along I-15 between Winchester Road and the I-15/I-215 Junction. Structure improvements for the total project consist of a bridge replacement, four new bridges, five bridge widenings, eighteen Caltrans Standard Plan retaining walls, a tie-back wall, three MSE walls, and a sound wall on retaining wall. Miscellaneous improvements include embankments, drainage facilities, detention basins, sign structures, and structural pavement sections.

EMI conducted a geotechnical field investigation consisting of 180 soil borings and 3 CPTs to determine subsurface conditions and collect soil samples in areas of the proposed improvements. Soil laboratory tests were performed on selected soil samples to obtain or derive relevant physical and engineering properties. Geotechnical design services also include preparation of Foundation Reports, a Geotechnical Design Report, and a Materials Report in compliance with Caltrans standards to provide design and construction recommendations for the proposed project improvements.
